Serena Williams returns spreading more ranking protection for new mothers on WTA

Serena Williams backs on the WTA Tour has increased the initiation of more ranking protection for new mothers.

The athletes, who returns back from a serious injury or after giving a birth to a child, can use their past ranking to join twelve tournaments during a period of 3 years.

Moreover, they won’t play against a seeded player in the beginning round.

“I think it’s great,” Serena said, who was blessed with a daughter named Alexis Olympia in Sept2017 and came back in action in Feb2018.

“Women that are younger can go out there and have kids and not have to worry about it, and not have to wait until the twilight of their years to have children, and I think it’s really a great rule.”

“I think having gone through the experience myself really opened my eyes. Would I have done it sooner had there been different rule changes? I don’t know.

“But now there is an opportunity, people don’t have to ask that question.”

The 37-years-old Williams was not seeded at the French Open made her 1st performance after her come back in Grand Slam, but for Wimbledon a seeding of twenty five was given by her, regardless of she is not in the top 32 rankings. She has now got a rank of 16 and for the Australian Open in the next month she’ll be seeded.
The change in the rule of WTA takes place following the management gathered the opinions of players in the start of the year.
